Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Madalitso Kambauwa-Wirima, M.P., Monday expressed satisfaction with the state of readiness for schools in Chitipa and Karonga districts.
Wirima made the remarks after visiting Lufita, Namuchese and Baka Primary Schools as well as Nyungwe Community Day Secondary School.
"It is pleasing to note that the schools notwithstanding a few challenges, have exhibited great readiness as they gear up to re-open on 7 September," said Wirima adding that "am particularly impressed to note that all the required hygiene materials like basins, soap and buckets have been bought and are available in the required quantities including solar radio sets for the vulnerable."
The deputy Minister also expressed hope that 'all schools are working hard to make sure that come 7 September, everything should be in place for the condusive environment for learners.'
The deputy Minister urged teachers and members of the community who were undergoing training on COVID-19 preventive measures and management of children amidst the COVID-19 pandemic to work with commitment and diligence to make sure safe return to school is actualised.
In his remarks, Paramount Chief Kyungu commended Government for the initiative to re-open schools and also engage the community in the process.
The deputy Minister is visiting a number of schools in the Northern Region as part of the assessment of schools by the Ministry on their readiness to re-open.
President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera announced two weeks ago that schools would be re-opened in early September a point that was confirmed by Education Minister Hon. Agnes NyaLonje last Thursday.
