President Dr John Pombe Joseph Magufuli has won the presidential poll with a landslide, By Diramakini Reporter.
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) said on today Friday 30th October, 2020.
According to the Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), retired Judge Semistocles Kaijage,Dr. Magufuli got more than 12.5 million votes in Wednesday's vote.
While his main challenger, Tundu Lissu of the CHADEMA party, got 1.9 million votes, the electoral commission said.
Dr.Magufuli has taken the biggest majority since multi-party elections began in 1995. with 84% of the vote.
"The commission declares John Magufuli of CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) who garnered the majority of votes as the winner in the presidential seat and Samia Suluhu Hassan as the Vice President of United Republic of Tanzania," said Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), retired Judge Semistocles Kaijage.
Magufuli has been seeking a second, five-year term, and has promised voters that he will boost the economy by completing ambitious infrastructure projects he started in his first term and other strategy projects.
