The Federal Government of Somalia can confirm reports that illegal militias armed by the Government of Kenya crossed the border into Somalia last night and attacked the Gedo region, in particular, the district of Beled Xaawo.
Our brave Somali National Armed Forces swiftly and successfully countered this illegal invasion orchestrated by the Government of Kenya.
The Federal Government of Somalia strongly condemns this illegal aggression orchestrated and planned within Kenya. These actions are an affront to the peaceful coexistence and to international norms of mutual respect, territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
