Matt Hancock quits as health secretary after breaking social distance guidance

Matt Hancock has resigned as UK Health Secretary after he breached social distancing guidance by kissing a colleague.

In a letter to the PM he says the government "owe it to people who have sacrificed so much in this pandemic to be honest when we have let them down".

He reiterated his apology for "breaking the guidance" and he apologised.

It comes after pictures emerged of him with Gina Coladangelo, reportedly taken on 6 May.

Who is Matt Hancock

Matthew John David Hancock (born 2 October 1978) is a British politician who served as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care from 2018 to 2021. 

He previously served as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in 2018, for six months. A member of the Conservative Party, he has been Member of Parliament (MP) for West Suffolk since 2010.
