The High Commission hosted the first-ever Pakistan-Tanzania and the EAC Friendship Day Dinner Reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Dar es Salaam June 25th, 2021

Hon. Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Hon. Engineer Steven D. M. Mlote, Deputy Secretary General (Planning and Infrastructure), East African Community Secretariat, represented the EAC Secretariat.

Other important dignitaries present at the event included Hon. Dr. Exaud S. Kigahe, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tanzania; Hon. Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, Minister of State, Economy and Investment of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar; Hon. Lela Mohammed Mussa, Minister for Tourism and Heritage of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar; Hon. Omar Said Shaaban, Minister of Trade and Industrial Development of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar; Hon. Engineer Zena Ahmed, Chief Secretary of the Revolutionary Council of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar; Hon. Lugiko Happiness Elias, Member of Parliament, East African Legislative Assembly, Arusha; H.E. Dr. Ahmada El Badaoui Mohamed Fakih, Dean of Diplomatic Corps; Mr. Joseph W. Butiku, Executive Director, The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation; Mr. Ladislaus Matindi, Managing Director, Air Tanzania Company Limited; Mr. Paul Koyi, President, Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture; and representatives of the Pakistani Diaspora.

Around 200 guests attended the Pakistan-Tanzania and the EAC Friendship Day Reception.

In his remarks on the occasion, High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem highlighted Pakistan’s historically cordial relations with Tanzania and the wider EAC partner states in political, defence, economic and cultural spheres.

He then enumerated the major initiatives undertaken under the ‘Engage Africa’ policy of the Government of Pakistan since November 2019 for enhancing linkages with Tanzania and the EAC region.

He also identified the low lying fruits for economic, trade and investment collaboration in diverse sectors of mutual interest.

He informed that the High Commission was working on exchange of ministerial and high-powered business delegations in the months ahead bilaterally with Tanzania and with the EAC Secretariat respectively.

Foreign Minister Ambassador Mulamula, in her remarks, reiterated the interest and commitment of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania in furthering the friendly relations with Pakistan.

The EAC Deputy Secretary General Mr. Mlote assured the participants of the EAC Secretariat’s keen interest in exploiting the enormous potential for Pakistan-EAC economic partnership.

Mr. Paul Koyi, President, Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, recalled the Tanzanian business delegation’s visit to Pakistan in November 2020. He shared his strong impressions of the numerous opportunities for Tanzanian business community for establishing direct trade and investment linkages with their Pakistani counterparts.
