The Ministry of Health and Wellness in Botswana wishes to inform members of the public that the ongoing vaccination is proceeding at different paces across the country.
In most parts of the country, vaccination program is proceeding well and the respective District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) have made their own arrangements tailor made to suit their varying situations.
The public together with other groups currently being vaccinated should contact their local DHMTs for any facilitation they need. Contacts for each of the DHMTs could be sourced from the nearest health facility.
Despite the setbacks that characterised the resumption of the vaccination roll out program in the Greater Gaborone DHMT area, the majority of the huge volumes of people who came were eventually vaccinated.
Each vaccination site in the Greater Gaborone DHMT was therefore, vaccinating between 250 and 300 people per day, which was way more than the usual 100 people per day per site that they vaccinate on normal days.
As a result, the number of vaccines allocated to members of the public, as first doses (AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson), for the Greater Gaborone DHMT are already running short in some sites. We expect them to be completely finished on 23 August 2021.
As for the dose allocation for prioritised groups, DHMTs are in touch with the sectors involved and some will be vaccinating over the weekend, including the Greater Gaborone DHMT.
Following the arrival of some vaccine consignments (eg. the 81, 900 doses of the Pfizer vaccine that arrived yesterday), and others expected in the coming days, communication will be made on when first dose vaccination will resume in the Greater Gaborone DHMT and elsewhere in the country.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully
