DAR (May 21st, 2024)-The Bank of Kigali, Rwanda's biggest bank by assets, has confirmed Deogratius Massawe as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its technology unit, BK Techouse.
Deo was acting CEO of the Bank of Kigali (BK) Techouse since August last year.
Before taking on the CEO position, he served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of BK Techouse for three years.
"I am grateful to share that I have been confirmed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for BK Techouse.. Excited for the opportunities that lie ahead in this new chapter," Deo said on LinkedIn.
Established in 2016, BK Techouse is one of the key players in the digitization of the Rwandan economy.
It provides innovative technology and services across diverse sectors, including agricultural technology, educational technology and financial technology.
It's digital payment platforms have more than 3 million users.
Before moving to Rwanda, Deo (pictured) worked in the United States at telecom giant T-Mobile for more than 14 years.
He held various positions at T-T-Mobile, including Senior Manager for Product and Technology, and previously worked as CTO/COO at ride-hailing company Moovn.
In his early years in the US, Deo also worked as a senior IT consultant for Microsoft and intern system engineer at IBM.
He holds an MBA in business administration and health informatics from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Washington.
