TMA issues alert over tropical storm (IALY) in Indian Ocean north of Madagascar


THE PRESENCE OF MODERATE TROPICAL STORM "IALY" IN THE INDIAN OCEAN, NORTH OF MADAGASCAR

DAR (17th May 2024)-Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) is issuing an information regarding the presence of moderate tropical storm named “IALY” in the Indian Ocean, north of Madagascar.

The analysis of weather systems in the Indian ocean shows that the cyclone will continue to remain in the Indian Ocean in the area between Madagascar and the Seychelles Islands for the next four days before it starts to weaken.

In addition, following its position and the distance from the country, the tropical storm “IALY” is not expected to have direct impacts in enhancing rainfall within the country. However, periods of strong winds and high ocean waves may occur in the Indian Ocean.

ADVICE: The Public and Mariners in general are advised to continue to make follow-ups of latest weather forecasts and updates from Tanzania Meteorological Authority as well as to seek advice and guidance from experts in the relevant sectors.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority continues to monitor the status and development of the Tropical Storm “IALY” and will provide updates whenever necessary and as appropriate.
