Dr.Faustine Ndugulile appeals for votes at WHO-AFRO 74th Session

BRAZZAVILLE (27 August 2024)-In a powerful and inspiring speech at the 74th Session of the WHO Afro Regional Committee, Dr. Faustine Ndugulile presented himself as a dedicated candidate for the position of WHO Regional Director for Africa.
His address focused on seeking support from member states to secure the role and drive transformative change across the continent.

Dr. Ndugulile, who is contesting for the prestigious position, opened his speech with high praise for the achievements under Dr. Moeti’s leadership.

He highlighted the progress made in reducing maternal and infant mortality, tackling diseases such as TB, Malaria, and HIV/AIDS, and addressing neglected tropical diseases. Dr. Ndugulile extended his heartfelt thanks to Dr. Moeti for her commendable work.

However, he also outlined critical challenges facing the region, including insufficient progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), financial constraints, a shortage of healthcare workers, and the impacts of emerging diseases and climate change.

He emphasized the urgent need for a new direction to address these issues effectively.

Dr. Ndugulile’s vision for WHO-AFRO includes a comprehensive strategy to overcome these challenges.

He proposed a transformational approach focusing on four key areas: enabling the right to health, preparing for future pandemics, enhancing health political mainstreaming, and ensuring a responsive regional office.

His plan involves increasing investment in healthcare financing, strengthening health systems, and improving pandemic preparedness.

"I am committed to leading WHO-AFRO through a transformative phase," Dr. Ndugulile declared. "We need to align our efforts with the current needs and challenges, engage in health diplomacy, and drive innovation in health systems."

Drawing from his extensive experience as Deputy Minister of Health, Minister for Communications and ICT, and an elected Member of Parliament, Dr. Ndugulile emphasized his readiness to address Africa’s health challenges.

He highlighted his track record in health policy implementation, digital transformation, and political engagement, demonstrating his capability to lead effectively.

Dr. Ndugulile concluded his speech with a direct appeal to the member states: “I humbly request your vote for my candidature for the position of WHO Regional Director for Africa.

It is time

It is time

It is time for a healthier Africa and turn our vision into reality.”

His call for support was accompanied by a recognition of the Government of the Republic of the Congo for its support and collaboration with the WHO Afro Regional Office. Dr. Ndugulile's address sets a hopeful tone for the future of WHO-AFRO and the health landscape of Africa.
