JUBA (𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒)- In a significant step towards regional stability, President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Kenya's President Dr. William Samoei Ruto have directed the mediation teams to reconvene and resolve any outstanding issues within two weeks before the final signature.
This directive was issued during a high-level meeting between the two principals in Juba.
Kenya's National Security Advisor, Dr. Monica Juma confirmed that the two heads of state have agreed to secure regional endorsement for the Tumaini Initiative and urged IGAD to mobilize enough resources and garner international support, including from the TROIKA countries, to ensure full implementation of the initiative.
The two principals also reaffirmed the longstanding fraternal bonds between South Sudan and Kenya, with both emphasizing their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Dr. Juma said another key agreement from the meeting was the construction of 11-kilometer road linking Nadapal to Nakodok, a project aimed at enhancing trade and movement between the two nations.
South Sudan’s Minister of Presidential Affairs, Amb.Chol Mawut Ajongo, stated that the discussions also focused on furthering bilateral relations between Juba and Nairobi. He added that both leaders acknowledged the successful signing of nine protocols, which have now been Initialled, marking a significant step forward in their partnership.
Remarkably,the meeting underscores the continued commitment of both South Sudan and Kenya to regional peace, cooperation, and economic development.
