JUBA (𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫,𝟐𝟎𝟐4)-President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reiterated his Government’s commitment to silencing the guns across South Sudan, aligning with the African Union’s agenda for peace and stability in the country.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of new government officials, Kiir emphasized the importance of achieving lasting peace in the lead-up to the national elections, which are set to take place in two years.
The president's address came as he welcomed the appointment of Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning,Bec George Anyak and the new Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Emmanuel Primo Okello, both of whom were sworn into office in a formal ceremony.
The President further underscored the urgent need for concerted efforts from all leaders to foster a sustainable peace process and to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process in the near future.
In their remarks, the newly appointed officials, Anyak and Okello, pledged to embrace teamwork and work diligently in their respective roles to drive the national development agenda.
Senior government officials also encouraged the new leaders to prioritize unity among communities, stressing that national unity would be key to overcoming the challenges ahead of their respective assignments.
