EASTRIP Project increases leather product training opportunities at DIT Mwanza

MWANZA-The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) Mwanza Campus celebrates the achievements realized through the implementation of the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP).
Speaking at the campus on November 18, 2024, the project’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Augustine Mbitila, stated that the project has brought significant transformations to the campus in terms of infrastructure, equipment, and establishing collaborations with other institutions both locally and internationally.
Mbitila noted that before the implementation of the project, the campus had the capacity to enroll 100 students. However, with the project’s support, it now has the capacity to enroll over 3,000 students in both short-term and long-term programs.

He added that the EASTRIP project will enable the campus to acquire modern teaching and learning equipment, allowing students to gain practical skills and enter the job market equipped with the ability to use advanced machinery.

“The EASTRIP project has also facilitated our campus to establish collaborations with institutions and companies involved in leather products both locally and internationally. For instance, we have sent our instructors to Ethiopia for training, and instructors from there have come here to train our instructors and students,” added Mbitila.

Additionally, he mentioned that the project has increased the number of training programs from two to eight, enabling students to learn the entire value chain of leather product manufacturing.
The Director of Technical Education and Vocational Training from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Frederick Salukele, stated that by the end of this month, the contractor will hand over some of the infrastructure for use.

The director urged the students who will have the opportunity to use this infrastructure to ensure they maintain it so that it serves for a long time, and the government has ensured it is built to high standards.
