President Dr.Ruto elected as East African Community (EAC) chairman

ARUSHA-The 24th East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit, held in Arusha today November 30, 2024 has appointed the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Dr William Ruto as the new Chairperson of the Community for a one-year term from November 2024 to November 2025 and the President of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as the Raportour.
President Ruto succeeds the President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, who has completed his one-year term as the Chairperson of the EAC.

The summit, held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), was also attended by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania and the host of the summit, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan; the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni; the President of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E. Paul Kagame; and the Vice President of Burundi, H.E. Prosper Bazombaza.

Additionally, various ministers from the EAC member states, including the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania, H.E. Amb. Mahmoud Thatib Kombo, participated in the summit.
