SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) release Preliminary Statement on the conduct of the 30 October 2024 General Elections in the Republic of Botswana

GABORONE-SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) African Union Electral Observation Mission (AU-EOM) and SADC Electoral Commisions Forum (SADC-ECF) releases Preliminary Statement on the conduct of the 30 October 2024 General Elections in the Republic of Botswana.
SEOM observed that the pre-election and voting phases of the 2024 General Elections in the Republic of Botswana were conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner where the Batswana people exercised their democratic right to vote.

The Mission calls upon all the stakeholders to continue imparting positives of peace, tolerance and calm across all available platforms while the country awaits the final results of the 2024 General Elections.

The African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) Observed that the Botswana 2024 elections were conducted in a peaceful environment and in compliance with the national laws. The elections were also largely in compliance with regional, continental andinternational standards.

The Mission commends H.E President Masisi for conceding defeat while the counting process is still ongoing and the people of Botswana for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner.

The Mission urges all political players to uphold peace and refrain from any action that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

AU-EOM commends the people of Botswana for their commitment to the consolidation of democracy.

The SADC-election Commission Forum (ECF) commends the IEC Botswana for its efforts in organizing the 2024 General Elections despite the appointment of new Commissioners in September 2024,quite close to the election day.

The Mission also extends its appreciation to voters, political parties and all stakeholders for their commitment, tolerance and patience in participating in electoral processes.

The ECF-SADC will continue to observe the post-election processes,including the final declaration of results and post-election developments.
