ZANZIBAR-The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) met with a delegation from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the OCP Foundation to discuss how they can collaborate in areas of mutual interest that they are working on.
The institutions met on November 14, 2024, at SUZA’s headquarters in Tunguu, South Unguja, where they initially agreed to create the necessary framework for cooperation.
During the discussions, the areas identified for potential collaboration include research disciplines, climate change, biodiversity conservation, mangrove conservation, the blue economy, agriculture, capacity building for staff, and technology exchange.
Hasina Moukhariq, Director of the OCP Foundation from Morocco, stated that her organization is collaborating with other institutions and local communities.
In Zanzibar, the relevant institutions are those involved with the Blue Economy and the Ministry of Agriculture while for Mainland Tanzania, collaboration extends to the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Energy.
Dr. Burhan Said Ahmed, Acting Head of the School of Agriculture, expressed his satisfaction with receiving the delegation, which shows a genuine interest in collaborating on many academic areas.
