President Kiir directs payment of salary arrears

JUBA-President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Minister of Finance and the entire economic team to ensure that salary arrears owed to public employees are duly settled as soon as possible.
The President issued the directive on December 11th,2024 during the swearing-in ceremony of new government officials, including the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Johnny Ohisa Damian, the Chief of Defence Forces,Dr. Paul Nang Majok, and the Inspector General of Police, Abraham Manyuat Peter.

In his address, President Kiir called for an urgent intervention to alleviate the country's economic crisis. "It is critical that we correct the current anomalies in the economic sector in order to alleviate the suffering of our people," he said.
He also instructed the newly appointed officials to work diligently to ensure stability and economic growth in the country.

The president further emphasized the role of the banking sector in the financial and economic stability of the country. "I expect full cooperation from all economic institutions to contribute to the recovery of our economy," President Kiir declared, as he emphasized collective efforts to stabilize the nation's financial landscape.

In the security docket, the President listed a raft of orders for the new Chief of Defence Forces and the Inspector General of Police, underscoring the need for modernization of the armed forces, urging the topmost security barons to play active roles in the ongoing security sector reforms agenda.
"The resources allocated to the armed forces should be put to good use, and the welfare of our men and women in uniform attended to," President Kiir added.

The Head of State also ordered an immediate removal of multiple checkpoints across the country to facilitate the easy movement of goods and services, which are essential to the well-being of the people without any impediments.
