NAIROBI-CMC Motors Group announces its decision to cease operations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania after 40 years, citing sustained market challenges, including economic pressures, currency depreciation and rising operational costs.
Once pivotal to East Africa's agricultural sector through mechanization and vehicle production, CMC had retrenched 169 employees in 2023, marking an earlier step toward scaling back.
The company states that even after restructuring efforts, market conditions have left no viable path forward.
