President Kiir expresses optimism as RTGONU Delegation to resume talks on Tumaini Consensus in Nairobi

JUBA-President Salva Kiir Mayardit today January 3rd, 2025 held an extraordinary meeting of the presidency. The meeting, which was held in the Presidential Complex, discussed the progress made so far by the Tumaini Peace Initiative expected to resume in Nairobi next week.
The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, said the meeting focused on the challenges faced during the past round of talks, adding that the mediators have asked the Government negotiating team to go back to Nairobi for the final round of talks slated for early next week.
Minister Lomuro said the Tumaini initiative is important to the stabilization process of the country as it is aimed to conform its objectives into the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.

Dr. Lomuro reiterated the commitment of the Government for inclusivity, adding that all armed groups should join the Tumaini Initiative so that this mechanism can comprehensively deal with and eliminate all conflict expressions in the country.
He said these talks represent a new resolve for peace, amidst optimism from the leaders that the talks might usher in a more stable and united South Sudan.
