ZANZIBAR-The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has expressed heartfelt condolences to the Ismaili community on the passing of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, who passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon at the age of 88.
President Mwinyi honored His Highness’s visionary leadership and lifelong commitment to humanitarianism, education, healthcare, and global development through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
On behalf of the Government and people of Zanzibar, he extended sympathies to His Highness’s family, the Ismaili community, and all who were touched by his legacy.
“As we mourn this great loss, we also celebrate a leader whose impact will inspire generations,” said President Mwinyi.
The Government of Zanzibar stands in solidarity with the Ismaili community and the AKDN during this difficult time.
